The career redemption of Steve Smith is a story for the ages. He is currently the finest Test batsman in the world. After making a name for himself as a prospective leg-spinner who could also bat a little, there was widespread criticism, especially in Australia, of the quality of his early international selection. They were made to eat humble pie, though, as the enigmatic New South Wales batsman turned things around in spectacular manner to become one of the finest batters in the world.
Steve Smith made his cross-format debut during the 2007-08 domestic season. As a leg spinner, he was noted for giving the ball a decent rip and generating a lot of rotation. His boyish charm and the way he approached the crease prompted similarities to Shane Warne, who had recently departed from international cricket a season or two previously. Smith had skill, but he was too inexperienced for the big stage. The national call-up followed a few years later, with the limited-overs debut in February 2010. Later that year, he was introduced to the longest format on a tour of England.
Apart from delivering his leggies, Smith began his career as a batsman who could bat at 7 or 8. His skill set, though, still had a lot of rawness to it.His selection in the 2010-11 Ashes series received widespread criticism, and after Australia lost the urn, his career declined a little, with him being dropped from all formats of the game. The opinion of the commentators was that the guy was better with the bat than with the ball. Smith the batsman possessed a great deal of bravery, and he began to work on it more deliberately. Former Australian great Greg Chappell previously said that Smith was the country’s finest batting talent. He would be proven correct in a significant manner in the coming years.
