Shardul Thakur, who comes from the tiny Maharashtra village of Palgarh, was faced with the oft-mentioned but rarely-addressed dilemma of having to travel almost a hundred kilometers to Mumbai to pursue his cricketing aspirations. Thakur’s career has been one of patience and hard effort, from a stereotyped little lad from the cricketing backwaters lugging his cricket equipment to practice to the most sought-after speed bowler in the Mumbai domestic circuit.
His team won the Ranji Trophy in his maiden season for Mumbai, but Shardul’s personal stats were unimpressive, with only four wickets in as many games. Nonetheless, Thakur, who did not have the physique of an athlete at the time, worked on his fitness and honed his skills as he progressed in the domestic fold, taking 27 wickets in six games the following season and peaking in the 2013/14 season with 48 wickets from ten games, including an unprecedented five 5-wicket hauls.
In 2016, he was chosen in India’s 16-man team for the Test series against the West Indies, however, he did not play. He was chosen in India’s limited-overs squad for the series against Sri Lanka in August 2017. On August 31, 2017, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Sri Lanka.
After Sachin Tendulkar, he became the second Indian cricketer to wear the number 10 shirt, prompting a flurry of controversy on social media. Due to controversy, he later altered his jersey number to 54. Tendulkar’s No. 10 jersey was retired by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on November 29, 2017.
On February 21, he made his Twenty20 International (T20I) debut for India against South Africa.

Shardul Thakur Personal Life
His interest in schooling and academics paled in comparison to his passion for cricket, and he had demonstrated his talent since his school days. He has the record for hitting six sixes in an over in a Harris Shield match, being only the third player to do so.
Shardul’s hometown was 87 kilometers from Mumbai, so he had to board one of the notoriously crowded Mumbai-Local trains to get here for practice. When he smashed six sixes in six balls in school cricket, he drew a lot of attention.
He made his domestic cricket debut against Rajasthan in November 2012. He failed to make an impression on his debut, taking only four wickets at an average of 82.0 in his first four games. At the end of the season, the Mumbai team management requested that he shed some pounds, and because he was dedicated to his profession, he returned fitter. He took 27 wickets at 26.25 in the next season.
