Mominul Haque is a Bangladeshi first-class cricketer who also plays as a left-handed batter for the Bangladesh national side in Test matches.
Mominul Haque is a dynamic left-handed batsman and good left-arm spinner from Bangladesh who made an immediate impact on the international stage. He is from Cox’s Bazaar, a major tourist spot on Bangladesh’s coast. Mominul began his cricket career at BKSP, Bangladesh’s largest sports institute, and made his First-Class debut for Dhaka Division against Chittagong Division in the 2008-09 season
He was selected for the Under-19 World Cup squad in 2010, and in that year, he joined the National Cricket Academy. In the domestic circuit, he continued to score runs in the middle order and was selected for the Bangladesh ‘A’ team for the West Indies tour. He scored 150 in the tour’s first match. After scoring hundreds in back-to-back First-Class games, he was finally called up to the national squad. In November 2012, he was selected as a replacement for the injured Shakib Al Hasan for the first two ODIs against the West Indies.
Mominul became the fastest Bangladeshi batsman to score 1,000 Test runs in November 2014, doing so in just 21 innings. Due to his beautiful strokeplay, he was expected to excel in the shorter formats after such a great start to red-ball cricket, but that hasn’t happened. He was given the opportunity to press his claim at the 2015 World Cup, however he only played in the first two games, and after failing in both, he was dropped and hasn’t played white-ball cricket since.
Because of his proclivity for taking his time settling in, Bangladesh appears to want to keep Mominul for the Test match format. His domestic records imply that his style of play is most suited for five-day cricket. Mominul, on the other hand, would like to improve his limited-overs game and be a part of the team in all forms as he gets older. In Test cricket, his form has been moderate over the previous two years, while his early-career consistency has waned a little.
In international cricket, when batsmen play more, bowlers are more likely to sort them out. What distinguishes these willow-wielders as quality players is how they respond. Mominul is still scoring runs in Tests, but he needs to be more consistent. His success in white-ball formats will be determined by his versatility. There has never been any debate about his ability or class; the question has always been whether or not he can be flexible.
