Portuguese-born Moises Henriques went to Australia when he was just one years old. He is now regarded as a promising young cricketer, particularly in the limited-overs category.
Henriques initially gained attention as a 16-year-old member of Australia’s Under-19 World Cup squad in 2004. He wowed everyone with an 11-wicket haul. In the 2006 edition of the competition, he was promoted as captain of the team. This performance was even better for him, as he finished the tournament as the leading wicket-taker with 16 scalps and a total of 150 runs.
In 2006, he made his New South Wales first-class debut against South Australia. He followed it up with a 5-for-17 performance against Queensland. Inconsistent performances and a shoulder injury, though, forced him to retire. He regained his health and played well for his club team, St George, in Sydney Grade Cricket, regaining his spot in the national squad. In 2009, Henriques played his first T20 international match against New Zealand. He also filled in for an ailing James Hopes on the same year’s tour to India, when he made his ODI debut.
