Marcus Stoinis is an Australian all-rounder who is a right-handed batter and a medium pacer by trade. Stoinis was a member of the Australian Under-19 World Cup squad in Malaysia in 2008, which included players like Steven Smith, Phil Hughes, James Pattinson, Josh Hazlewood, and James Faulkner.
Stoinis made his Western Australian debut in January 2009, when he was 19 years old. However, he was unable to establish himself as a regular member of the starting eleven and opted to relocate to Victoria for the 2012-13 season.
He chose to play for the Northcote Cricket Club in the Victorian Premier Cricket league on the advice of former teammate Theo Doropoulos. Things began to change for Stoinis soon after he achieved tremendous success at Northcote. In 2013/14, he hammered four century and averaged a whopping 100 for the season.
Stoinis’ selection in the Victorian state team was a foregone conclusion given his form, and he was soon named in Victoria’s Sheffield Shield squad. He didn’t let the Victorian selectors down, hitting a brilliant 170 against Tasmania, cementing his position in the Victorian top-order.
In the 2014/15 Sheffield Shield season, he was Victoria’s leading run scorer. During the summer, he scored 785 runs at a 49.06 average. In July 2015, he was also a member of the Australian A team that visited India. Stoinis was named to the national team for the ODIs and the lone T20I against England in August-September 2015 after scoring 77 and taking 2/18 in the first four-day game against India A.
