Jason Behrendorff (born 20 April 1990) is a promising young Australian left-arm fast bowler from NSW. He was born in Canberra and played for the Australian Capital Territory before moving to Western Australia to make his first-class debut in 2011-12, taking 13 wickets in five Shield matches. He played for the Perth Scorchers in the Big Bash League the following season.
In the 2013-14 Sheffield Shield season, Behrendorff came into his own, finishing as the second top wicket taker with 40 scalps at a miserly average of 22.70. He maintained his strong play in the BBL, where he was instrumental in his team’s championship victory. He followed it up the next season with taking 15 wickets at an average of 16.73 in 10 matches, leading his side to its second straight triumph. As a result of his efforts, he was named the 2014-15 season’s “Domestic Player of the Year.”
Behrendorff continued to shine in the home circuit and also represented Australia A. Despite the fact that he had been hailed as a future superstar by everyone who had seen him bowl, he struggled to get into the national side due to a tough group of pacers. It took a long time for him to make his international debut for Australia, and it happened during a T20I series in India in 2017. He made an immediate impact, snagging a 4-fer to eliminate the cream of the Indian top order and set up a resounding Australian triumph.
