Gade Hanuma Vihari is an Indian cricketer who has represented his country at the international level. In Indian domestic cricket, he plays for Andhra Pradesh. He was a member of the India Under-19 cricket team that won the 2012 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Australia as a right-handed batsman and occasional right-arm off-break bowler. In September 2018, he made his Test debut for India.
In the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League, Vihari played for Sunrisers Hyderabad. Vihari bowled as an off-spinner in one of the league matches against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Hyderabad and dismissed Chris Gayle for only one run. In the same match, he also scored an undefeated 46 while chasing. Sunrisers eventually won the match by a super-over.
In the 2013/14 Ranji Trophy opening against Andhra Pradesh at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Vihari was responsible for one-third of Hyderabad’s total. He made 75 runs in the first innings before being removed by CV Stephen, and then went on to make an undefeated 68 runs in the second innings.
Hanuma Vihari, a classically accurate middle-order batsman, is proof of why runs count in domestic cricket. Vihari made his Test debut at the age of 24 when he was averaging over 60 in first-class cricket. It was his understanding of what it takes to hit huge runs that helped him become the first-choice option within months of his Test debut.
With 289 runs in four innings in a 2-0 victory over the West Indies in 2019, he emerged as the top batter on both sides. Virat Kohli, India’s captain, remarked at the end of the series that the dressing room is usually calm when they watch Vihari batting out in the middle because he was so accurate in his approach.
