Benjamin Andrew Stokes OBE (born 4 June 1991) is an English cricketer who has represented his country on several occasions. Stokes was a member of England’s World Cup-winning squad in 2019, winning Man of the Match in the final. When the normal captain was unavailable, he captained the England squad in both Tests and One Day Internationals. Stokes, who was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, came to northern England with his parents when he was 12 years old to study the game and play club cricket for local teams. Stokes, a left-handed batsman and right-arm fast-medium swing bowler, was named the world’s number one Test all-rounder in July 2020.
Stokes bowls at a constant speed of around 140kph (87 mph), and he can also swing the ball. He is England’s quickest ever Test double-century batter, the fastest ever Test match 250, and the highest ever score for a Test batsman playing at number six. He also holds the record for the most runs scored by a single batsman in a Test match’s morning session. In 2017, Stokes received a record deal of $14.5 million ($2.1 million or £1.7 million) from the Indian Premier League, making him the highest-paid overseas player in the league’s history. During the season, he was named the Most Valuable Player. The International Cricket Council (ICC) awarded Stokes the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for Best Cricketer of the Year in January 2020, and three months later he was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World for 2019, an award he repeated the following year.

Ben stokes Personal Life
In 2013, Stokes proposed to Clare Ratcliffe. In October 2017, they married in East Brent, Somerset. They are the parents of two children. Stokes’ entire back is covered with a tattoo depicting a family of lions, which represents his own family.
Nightclub incident and affray charge
Following the third One-Day International against the West Indies in Bristol in September 2017, Stokes was detained after getting into a street brawl with two guys near a bar, where teammate Alex Hales was also present. Both players missed the fourth game of the series as a result of this incident, and Stokes was also ruled out of the final game due to a hand injury acquired in the brawl. Due to the incident and ensuing trial, he also missed the 2017–18 Ashes and the second Test match against India. Because of these incidents, he lost his New Balance gear endorsement.
Stokes, along with the two other men, was charged with affray on 15 January 2018 and appeared in Bristol Magistrates’ Court on 13 February 2018. During the trial, which began on August 6, 2018, Stokes said he was defending a gay couple from homophobic abuse from the other two men, but the prosecuting lawyer accused him of lying and claimed that he had insulted the gay couple by flicking a cigarette at them. On August 14, he was found not guilty. Afterwards, the couple expressed gratitude to Stokes for defending them, adding that he “didn’t deserve to be put through a trial.”
The England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) charged Stokes with bringing the game into disgrace in September 2018 following the incident in Bristol and social media remarks. Stokes pled guilty to the charges and was fined £30,000 and suspended for eight matches in December 2018, all of which he had previously served.
